The Lion King Lights the Stage in February
Join the Main Street Chamber of Leake County Family Movie Night on February 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the old Carthage Elementary School for the beloved Disney Classic The Lion King. The Lion King tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is to succeed his father, Mufasa, as King of the Pride Lands; however, after Simba’s uncle Scar (Mufasa’s jealous younger brother), murders Mufasa, Simba is manipulated into thinking he was responsible and flees into exile. Upon maturation living with two wastrels, Simba is given some valuable perspective from his childhood friend, Nala, and his shaman, Rafiki, before returning to challenge Scar to end his tyranny and take his place in the Circle of Life as the rightful King.

The Minions Grace the Stage March 16th
They are back!!!! The Minions will grace the stage during Family Movie night on March 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Carthage Elementary School. Coffee with the Legislators
The Main Street Chamber of Leake County will be holding their annual “Coffee with the Legislators” on Monday February 26 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chamber Center. This is your opportunity to meet our local legislative delegation and express your thoughts and opinions on what is going on in Jackson that has a direct impact on Leake County. Pickin 35 Returns April 7th
Picking 35 ’18 is 60+ MILES of yard sale treasures, special finds and that one item you cannot live without from the North at Vaiden to Carmack , Kosciusko, Carthage, to Walnut Grove. Square Affair set for May 19
This year’s Square Affair is shaping up to be one of the best in years with new events and more fun for the entire family. This year’s event takes place on Saturday May 19st at McMillan Park and the Carthage Coliseum. The day kicks off with the annual Baptist Medical Center Leake Heart of Mississippi 5k Run/Walk with registration starting at 7:00 a.m. with the Race starting at 8:00 a.m. To sign up or get more information contact Michelle McCann at 601-267-1206 or contact the Main Street Chamber at 601-267-9231. All proceeds from the run/walk will go to the Leake County Sheriff’s Department and Carthage City Police Department for tactical equipment.
New to this year’s Square Affair is “The County Thunder Bike Show” featuring motorcycles of all shapes and sizes. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. with trophies and prizes for the top 5 bikes there. Registration for County Thunder is $20.00 per bike.
Arts and crafts vendors will line the west side of the Carthage Coliseum beginning at 8:00 a.m. with everything from clothing and handbags to leather goods. In the parking of the Carthage Coliseum the annual Club 66 Car Show will take place with over 100 antique cars from all over Mississippi. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with the show starting at 10:00 a.m. For more information on the car show and to register your car contact Jack Mann at 601-267-0357.
Also at the coliseum The Tyson Garden Tractor pull is back. Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the pull beginning at 12:00 noon. There will be a “as it comes” lawnmower class that can be entered by anyone interested, just make sure to remove the blades.
