Book Signing Saturday August 24th

Join the Friends of the Library as they welcome Lovejoy Boteler to Trustmark City Park (Sasser Park) Saturday August 24th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to sign his book Crooked Snake: The Life and Crimes of Albert Lepard.   In 1968, during Albert Lepard’s fifth escape from a life sentence at Parchman Penitentiary, he kidnapped Lovejoy Boteler, then eighteen years old, from his family’s farm in Grenada, Mississippi. Three decades later, still beset by half-buried memories of that time, Boteler began researching his kidnapper’s nefarious, sordid life to discover how and why this terrifying abduction occurred.  There will also be music by Stevie Chester.


Ribbon Cutting

Join the Main Street Chamber as we welcome Huddle House to Carthage with a Ribbon Cutting Saturday August 31st at 9:30 a.m.  The new Huddle House is located at 701 Highway 16 West.  They will be offering specials and lots of Door Prizes.  

 


The South of the River Roux Set for September 21st

The South of the River Roux is a mixture of fun, food and music, with something for everyone on Saturday September 21st.  Things get underway with the 2019 Mississippi Power Roux Run 5K and Fun Run, slated 8 a.m.

Cash Prizes will be awarded top male and female runners, top male and female walkers, and fun run winners, plus for age categories. Participants will be eligible for door prizes and ROUX Bucks. Oktoberfest Plans Announced

 

The 47th Annual Oktoberfest returns to the Carthage Coliseum on Friday October 4th and Saturday, October 5th.  It will run Friday from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. New to This years Event is the Great Carthage Ping Pong Ball Drop, Saturday October 5th.  That day the Main Street Chamber of Leake County will be dropping over 500 ping bong balls from the top of a bucket truck 70 feet in the air.  Drops will take place at 10:00 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m.  Hundreds of prizes will be given away to those lucky enough to catch the colored balls.  Be sure to watch for more details.

This year will feature arts and crafts from bird houses to leather goods and holiday decorations to homemade jams and jellies. Booth space is rapidly filling up, if you would like a space contact The Main Street Chamber of Leake County at 601-267-9231. For the kids there will be the Tyson pumpkin patch where they can decorate their pumpkins for Halloween and more. The will also be food of all types from homemade cakes to chicken on a stick.    It is a great time to get started on you Christmas gifts needs with that one of a kind item for that special person on your list.  Oktoberfest is free to the public with door prizes every hour.  Join us for this family friendly event.
